Geeks Sail on Rough Seas, Meet Dophins, and Photograph a Butt Crack

Sigh.  Vacation's over.  It's back to the real world.....or what's left of it.

We were on a cruise last week and decided to take a break from the real and online world.   It felt great although Evil Twin kept trying to wake me up in the middle of the night to sneak down to the library for some Facebook and blog time.  Fortunately, Evil Twin is a bit frugal and just couldn't bring herself to pay by the minute to use the Internet.

Instead of logging on during the wee hours of every night, I somehow braced myself against the moving ship, felt my way in the dark to find the bathroom remembering to step up as I opened the door.  I bumped into the tiny shower, found the toilet, peed, flushed, washed, and crawled back to the bed. I never get over how hard it is to pee during the night on a ship!

Later in the week, we finally gave in and got online to check something at my bank.  GREAT SHAKE IN THE MORNING!  I was greeted with the ruins of Japan at the hands of a most hateful Mother Earth.  Sigh.  So very sad.

On a lighter note, we had a nice time on our trip.  There was a Mardi Gras parade on the Promenade which was apparently a yearly event on this ship with repeat cruisers staring in the show.  I found some adorable beads for the celebration at a Mardi Gras festival in Galveston:

Yes, sweet dancin' dolphins!

I was thrilled to see the graceful creatures swimming in Galveston Bay as our ship was leaving.

Evil Twin was sure they were up to something.  She muttered something about a secret meeting with the cats that evening.

I decorated the cabin pup for Mardi Gras:

As usual, I missed out on a photo of an older couple wearing matching costumes complete with flashing lights.

Sigh.

Later in the week, we took a snorkeling excursion on Roatan.  I saw lots of coloful fishies playing on the reef, most memorably a sea turtle and a baby barracuda.  That little guy was probably hoping for a pre-lunch nibble.  Then it was time for our lunch:

Meet Bob and his butt crack.  Sorry, Dude.

I'm glad it was only cheese and onion quesadillas....at least I THINK that's what it was...

In Belize, we bounced on a bus on a bumpy road to arrive at the bat cave:

Yes, those are bats.  Those messy little creatures! Now I realize why it was a bit slippery in there. We also got to shimmy around avoiding decapitation by stalactites and removal of male genitalia by stalagmites.  The guides kept our adrenaline flowing with other fun stuff like rappelling and flying on a zipline:

 Whee!  There goes Hubby!

It was a nice break but it's always good to be back and sleeping in my own bed.  I brought back a bit of a cold so it's been a week of sneezing, coughing, blowing, and making sure I know where the soft tissues are around here.
ACHOO!

I hope you are having a great week.  I'll be happy to send you my cold.

Beware of quesadillas served in butt crack holders!
;-)

Glad you had fun and that Evil Twin didn't want to go swimming with the sharks. Not so glad about the cold.

Belize ziplining? Been there. Bumpy roads? Did those. Fun...

Ah... that was some serious fun. Thanks for sharing! And so happy that you're back home to free internet.

(Thanks for bringing back memories of a cruise ship bathroom. :) )

How cool! Looks like you and hubby had a great time. What a wonderful trip. I always love to see your pictures.

I always wanted to go ziplining. My 21 year old son did when he was a teen. I just get to close the zipper freezer bags. : (

There seems to be a lot of butt crack going around.

00dozo - YIKES! Butt crack holders?

@VE - Knowing your trip, you bus probably broke down!

@mama-face - Good to see you here! Yeah, everything is so small in your cabin and bathroom.

@Lauren - Thanks. We had fun. I am ready to do the zipline again but I will have to settle for the plastic bags for awhile!

Ha! "Cannibal Cafe?"

Ha! With or without butt-crack to serve up the food, I'd be wary.

Never been a cruise. Not sure I want to with those dang pirates around. But then again, I don't have an Evil Twin to protect me.

*smile*

Sounds like you had a great time!

No thanks on the cold but I will take that dolphin necklace (don't worry, I'll add my own flashing lights)
(-:)

@Quirky - Maybe Cannibal Cafe serves pirates for lunch!

@Mrsblogalot - Step away from the dolphins!

Glad you had a fun trip and you made it back safe and sound. I like your pics. I always take my camera on vaca, but I never take pictures.

Now, THAT looks like a good time! Wish I could have been there with you. Maybe a blog conference on a cruise ship some day!

I hope you had a wonderful vacation. It sounds like you did. Snorkeling is fun too!

Have a great rest of the weekend and kick that cold.

@Madge - Thanks! Next time, just keep that camera within easy reach and snap those photos!

@Paula - Thanks! A blog conference would be loads of fun.

@Constant - Thanks! The cold is almost history.

Cannibal Cafe. There's really nothing suspicious about that... :P

Oh, your week sounded absolutely amazing! And I'm so jealous, I want to see the Batcave, too!

Potential decapitations and male genitalia removal! I bet they left that part out in the travel brochure.

Where's the crack?

ReformingGeek said...

@K - Yep. Maybe next year.

@justine - No, not at all. Hum...

@Ziva - Thanks. I was on a constant lookout for Robin. Sigh. I never saw him.

@Marissa - Yes, but they could have at least told you about the one that reasonable a giant....er...Thingy. :)

@honeypie- Sorry. No drugs here. :) But if you want a plumber's crack, look closely at the Cannibal Cafe photo.

Erm, ah ... sure there wasn't some Gringo lips in those quesadillos? ;-)

the butt crack didn't look as impressive as I expected

I don't think you can be taken serious as a humor blogger until you have a post that includes butt crack. Congratulations! Extra pointS for a picture as well.

ReformingGeek said...

@Marvin - So THAT was the mystery ingredient.

@Jean - Well,um, nothing ever pleases you, right? :)

@Sue - Thanks. It feels great to take and post a butt crack photo. What freedom!

GOOD GRIEF! And here I was proud for just waking up this morning!! You exhausted me...back to bed.

Did you get those beads the honest way, or send Evil Twin to do the job?

Sounds like a great trip!!! I've always wanted to go on a cruise. Since the sh#% has officially hit the fan in the world, it might be better to live obliviously on the sea. Hmm, I wonder if I can get Cap'n Jack Sparrow to make a visit? You'd never hear from me again.... Ahh.... Good thoughts! :)

Glad you had a great time on your cruise. And so glad Evil Twin got that shot of a butt crack. We almost never see that in everyday life.

Did you do the zipline thing too? That would scare the poop right out of me. Hope your cold gets better soon.

Where the hell have I been? I missed this post AND your vacation? What a slacker (me, not you).

Sounds like you went bat sh*t in a zippy way, which is what a Bob butt crack can do to anyone.

Welcome back and hope the cold is now gone!
