Centus: Sitting on the Rainbow

I'm glad you stopped by today.  Yes, it's still hot in Texas and we are all a gooey mess down here.  Please send ice cubes.

I'm playing Saturday Centus again this week, writing a story, 100 words or less, using a prompt.

This week's prompt:

I listened to them from my perch on the top step and didn't know whether to laugh or to cry...

I hope you giggle or crack at smile at my little story today:

Sitting on the Rainbow

I didn't know it would be this good.  My first full day in heaven has been nothing but glorious.  The feeling of being totally connected with all living things is indescribable.   You would never believe, though, what Jesus is wearing up here.

Feeling light and ethereal, I wandered over to a stairway.  I smiled a bit, remembering the song Stairway to Heaven.  Haha.  There really is one.

I noticed a group of confused domestic house pets talking amongst themselves.
Climbing without effort, I listened to them from my perch on the top step and didn't know whether to laugh or to cry...

I did both, rejoicing that our beloved furry creatures are here with us.

This week's prompt is from:  Deckside Thoughts

Other stories can be found at this blog: Jenny Matlock

Have a great week!

Aww, Reffie! That was awesome! You put into words what so many of us animal lovers silently wish for even though we are told pets have no souls. I loved this!

So when you gonna link up? You need to share this with the others!

@Belle - Thanks. It was fun to write.

@Tom - Thanks. Of course pets have souls. Sheesh! Also, thanks for the reminder to link. I just did it.

That was soooo sweet! I love it.

Great job Reffie!

Very good, Reffie, although I sincerely hope that if pets and animals make it to heaven, they won't shed or poop. I mean, it is heaven, after all.

I'll get that block of ice in the mail for you, by the way.

@Quirky - Thank you. I'm sure you knew that All Dogs Go to Heaven.

@MikeWJ - Thanks. Yes, no pooping in Heaven sounds good to me. I'll go wait by the mailbox.

I loved it. Very sweet. Loved the reference to Stairway from Heaven. Good job with the Centus.

Nicely done. It's not easy to wrap up a story in 100 words and to make it sound great, too. I've got a lot of pets up there peeing on clouds. That's where rain comes from.

I absolutely LOVED that!!!

It was just beautiful. How do you make 100 words so great?

ReformingGeek said...

@Viki - Thanks! I had to have a stairway. ;-)

@Lauren - Thanks! In Heaven, their pee isn't a problem.

@Mrsblogalot - Thank you. What kind words!

Now I just want to know what Jesus was wearing!

Kat said...

What a sweet story! Love this take on the prompt. But I'm with meleah rebeccah - what exactly was Jesus wearing?

K A B L O O E Y said...

Ha, that was great. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. At first I too wanted to know what Jesus was wearing, but now that I've sat with it a while, I like this bit of ambiguity. It's like the last Sopranos episode. Or anything else with an ambiguous part. A good anything else, though. But were there sandals involved?

K A B L O O E Y said...

No, don't tell me.

ReformingGeek said...

@meleah - Hee Hee. I'll never tell.

@Kat - Thanks! Are you sure you really want to know?

@Kablooey - Thanks. I like the ambiguity, too. ;-) No sandals.

aaaah, i wish my dog could read this, he is sitting on his rug cleaning his paws, 13 nearly, deaf as a door nail now.He will be on his way up there soon i guess.
I would put him in denim shorts, you know the really short tight ones and a t-shirt. Not my dog, jesus.

Cool take on this. Inspirational and thoughtful. :)

ReformingGeek said...

@Vicki - Yes, you got it! It's Heaven, afterall. ;-)

@safa - I hope you pooch doesn't suffer too much. Jesus in denim? Hum...

@Okie - Thanks!

if you are allergic to animals do you automatically go to hell?

Bee said...

A stairway? I hope that when I go up there they'll have installed an escalator because otherwise it won't be my heaven! ;o)

ReformingGeek said...

@Jean - You won't have allergies in Heaven.

@Bee - There is no effort required to use the heavenly stairways. ;-)

Um, you obviously haven't read St. Augustine then, I take it? Animals don't have souls, he says. Just sayin'. :)

If only you had room for a few more words..."and then they handed me the dog poop bag and a big shovel..."

What a great glimpse into your vision of heaven. Unique take on the prompt.

@VE - No poop in Heaven.

@Cheryl - Thank you!

We hope that we will see our pets again someday the same as our relatives!

Wonderful story, Reffie. It makes me look forward to Heaven even more. I love how you used the prompt. Great job.

@Chaplain Donna - Thank you for stopping by and for the kind words. It was a fun story to write!

@otin - Hum....our relatives? Hum....

@Leenua - Thanks. I hope we can have plenty of time on earth, though! ;-)

In my wackier moments, when I fantasize about what type of heaven I'd be happy in (Hey, just because it's "heaven" doesn't mean I'D like it) I always fantasize about being surrounded by fur babies.....I was never imaginative enough to think of them TALKING! Maybe I'll try to think of something else now. I hate chit-chat.

Jenny said...

While I read this I kept paraphrasing the Andy Greigs song "If Heaven" in my mind.

This was lovely.

I really enjoyed the different direction your mind took this.

And I really enjoyed seeing you link.

Your writing style is really compelling.

Thank you for linking.

ReformingGeek said...

@Dana - If fur babies give you peace, they may be your Heaven!

@Jennifer - Thank you for the kind words. I had a lot of fun with this one!
