Big Texans and Wild Horses Should Have Kept Me Away

I was reading an article in the paper about a Texas woman who was told by an airline that she had to buy two seats because she was too big to fit in a single seat.    She said she was surprised and embarrassed by this situation and said something similar to "People are bigger in Texas".

Um.....EXCUSE ME?

Just because she is from Texas and she is big, she thinks everyone from Texas is big?

Um....no.  This woman obviously needs to get out more.  Yes, I see BIG PEOPLE here in Texas but I sure see a lot of BARBIE STICKS, too.

SHEESH!

Ah, for the smell of freshly watered brown grass...

According to the calendar, it's still spring.   It's supposed to rain in spring.   Mother Nature is obviously confused.  Yes, I truly believe she is going through the THE CHANGE.....in more ways than one.

I do have a rose bush that is still green and hasn't caught on that it's too hot to bloom:

She's a beauty and she knows it.

Also, since my real cat has not come back, I'm having to make do with this beast:

About all he's good for is pushing up daisies......er....I mean Blue Daze!

Yes, he's cracked.  Although he has made it through winters before, I don't think he cared for this last one, with the 12-inch snow event in February.

I had my running legs handed back to me on a platter yesterday.  I ran a half marathon on concrete trails in heat/high humidity.  I can tell you that there is no flavor of humble pie that I like.  The only saving grace was the scenery.  We had some nice green stuff to look at, like trees and park grass that is over-watered daily.  There were a few small lakes and a polo field (!!) but then there there was this sculpture at the finish line:

Over-sized wild mustangs.  Cool.  I wished I had been riding one instead of running that race straight out of the Hades.

Oh, I love that sculpture. It looks so cool and refreshing. You should have jumped into that fountain after your run.

Sorry Cat hasn't come home yet, although I'm mad at cats today.

And yes, the rose is beautiful. I love your yard.

Half a marathon? Is that supposed to make me feel like less of a slacker? (-:

That sculpture is awesome btw!

@Leeuna - Thanks. I'm sorry about those mean cats. Yes, that pool should have been my first stop after the race. I hope those horses didn't pee in it.

@MrsBlogalot - No, please slack away!

love the photos -- I wish we had that mustang sculpture in our pasture-- it would freak the wild ones out though. They look so cool running through the water. We had to give up on our rose bushes. Not enough light. We gave them all to a friend and they are blooming their heads off. I'm glad for her sake...

Texan airlines? Bigger planes, no minorities, smoking allowed? :-)

@meleah - Thanks. I think I lost a few brain cells out there, though.

@Wonder Wye - Thanks. I'm glad your roses have a new home.

@honeypie - You may be onto something. YIKES!

my butt almost needs its own seat.

why would you run, or even move in this Texas heat?

I think my brain would have melted completely!

Wow! The fake horses looked like they were running, unless the water was running. Hmm. Scratching head.

I love the horses statue!

@meleah - We need a spa day.

@Lauren - I'm sure it looks funny when there is a power failure.

@MA - Me, too! It's been there for 30 years...and that's the last time I saw it before Sunday. Silly me.

So if I run four "quarter" marathons ... do I get to count myself as a full fledged Marathoner? How about 32 32nd marathons? Hmm? Like walking up and down the stairs everyday? You's the expert, help an Old Silly out?

Be gentle?

I recognize that sculpture. Is it near the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport? I'm sure I've seen it. Although, when you're in Texas in the "spring time," you can never be of what you're seeing, because it's so damn hot there. Everything could be an illusion. No, illusion not's the right word. Hallucination? No. Mirage! Yes, that's what I meant.

"Things are bigger in Texas" Lol. I've only been to Texas once, and I made it a point to photograph everything so it made it look larger-than-life. Then I kept sending the photos back to Sweet-D to "show" him what he was missing.

I never did it with people though, just objects like trash cans, street signs, hats, etc. It made for a fun trip!

As far as spring, you can have our rain! I'm sick of living in this green jungle of a yard! It doesn't stop long enough to mow it.

@Marvin - I'm happy if you use the stairs instead of elevators whenever you can!

@Mike - It's in Las Colinas, which is about 20 minutes from D/FW airport. Also, it's nice here in early May! ;-)

@Ivy - What a fun idea. I hope you got some shots of the huge plates of food they serve you here in Texas. It's not surprising there are "big" people in Texas. I'm sorry about your rain. Yes, I will take it from you.

Oddly enough I just got off an airplane after six hours wedged beside a Texan who fully deserved a seat for each cheek. It works, but now I can't get my shoulders out of my ears.

That is one AWESOME sculpture. I took a double take, like - wait - are those REAL horses? lol

First off, congrats on your half-marathon. I can't IMAGINE how hot that must've been for you! Nice work!

Secondly, WOW, do I love that sculpture! I've never seen anything like it, I can't stop looking at it! Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing! (Also, that rosebush ROCKS!!)

ReformingGeek said...

@Murr - YIKES! I'm sorry about your seatmate.

@Marvin - Yes. It is a gorgeous sculpture.

@Joan - Thanks. I'm not sure I'll ever do that one again. They have a 10K so I might do that one next time.

Thanks. I love the sculpture and I'm very proud of my red rose bush!

Now THAT is one wicked cool (wet) sculpture! I know you climbed on one of them and channeled Lady Godiva just to get cool. Can't say I blame you in that heat!
