Fishing for Gingerbread People

It's amazing the things you find right under your nose.  Um, no, not boogers or snot although there is plenty of that, but inspiring architecture and postal creativity within a few miles of home.

Huh?

Deep in the heart of the D/FW metroplex, there are pockets of country living at its best.  Country living is a lesson in self-expression in designing your home and yard, letting your vibrant personality shine through. You are probably not even aware you have neighbors.

One would think some of these folks have been transported to an alternate universe or at least to an episode of the Twilight Zone with Rod Serling's ghostly manifestation hovering around them.   I think I saw Ron this morning on my run....

when I thought I must have transported into the CandyLand game but with rednecks and cars up on blocks as the game pieces:

OK, so this isn't the actual house I saw.  My photo did not show the real beauty of the abode so I borrowed that one.  Now, picture a pick-up truck out front and a Shetland pony out back.

Evil Twin is salivating all over the keyboard, muttering something about icing.

Further down the same road, I saw a fish mailbox.    My photo doesn't do it justice but I like the log cabin house:

Fish.  It's what for dinner (Well, maybe at THIS house!!)

I was glad when I returned to my neighborhood, sans hovering Ron, and was welcomed by Evil Twin's best friend hanging around in my neighbor's yard:

I'm pretty sure this guy is using a machete to whack the bamboo so he can creep closer and closer.

YIKES!

I love the house, it almost looks like a Whoville church. The gnome reminds me of myself because I am shaped like a garden gnome.

@Belle - Whoville? Maybe that's where I was at. Hum...

@MrsBlogalot - V-v-v-ampires? EEEEK.

@Marvin - So THAT's who Evil Twin has been meeting out there.

@Quirky - I just pulled a nail out of my head. Ah. Much better now. Thx.

That house looks like something out of a movie! And I think the fish mailbox is kind of cool too!

Loved the fish mailbox. I think he should move his house next to mine 'cause instead of a red flag on my mailbox, I have a red lobster. Maybe I can get the guy in town with the cow mailbox to move on the other side of me.

Watch out for that gnome thing and Evil Twin. You could have little Evil Gnomes running around early next spring.

I could totally eat that house. The fish mail box was funny. I once saw a house with a mail box on a really high pole -- you had to look up to see it and it said "Air Mail" on it. I thought that was classic Redneck. The fish is pretty "red" too.

Oooo and that garden gnome is scary.

ReformingGeek said...

@meleah - I wouldn't be surprised if they used it in a movie!

@Deb - Yum, lobster. Too bad you don't like it. Yes, fish guy should be your neighbor. Uh oh. Evil gnomes? Would you to adopt one?

@Leeuna - I will eat it with you. "Air Mail." Haha. I will protect your from the garden gnome.

OMG. The fish mailbox is hysterical. Is that a rainbow trout?

A Shetland Pony in the back. LOL! They need the pooper scooper el grande.

The garden gnome probably lived in the gingerbread house and followed you home. You should feed him something, he's probably hungry.

ReformingGeek said...

@Lauren - I know what to get you for Christmas. As for what kind of fish it is, heck if I know. It's a fish. ;-)

I hope they scoop....

@Ziva - You have a big heart.

I didn't know that fish mailboxes were such an oddity, for every other house in my neck of the country has one. And you should see how they're decorated for every holiday!

You're right not to trust that gnome. They're sneaky little bastards and don't seem to do anything productive with their time. They just stand around staring at you all the time.

Such great examples of silly, happy living in your neighborhood! thanks for sharing.

@Georgie - Let's take a bite out it.

@Mike - Maybe the deer will eat him.

@AmyLK - Thank you for sitting thru my ramblings.

the people up the road from us have some kind of dried dead corpses of unknown animals on their barbed wire fence. I think they might be birds but who really knows.

ReformingGeek said...

@CatLady - I see dog poop, too. ;-) I'm sure you can get a fishbox on the Internets!

@Jean - Idn't that special?

Candyland with Rednecks...bwahaha.

What is it with gnomes? (If YOU have a gnome, I'm just wondering how to get one of my own).
