Of Winds and Wings and Bluebonnets!

This week the winds of March have not only arrived but settled in nicely.  DANG IT!  Why can't they get the month right?  I go out for a run and come back in covered in dirt.  A squirrel tried to bury nuts in me.

Ew.  That sounded awful, didn't it?

Don't answer that.

Earlier in the week, Evil Twin handed me some wings and was trying to teach me to fly.  She told me I was a kite.

I couldn't quite get the hang of running and flapping and I kept kissing the ground causing Evil Twin to break out in uncontrollable spurts of laughter.  Sheesh!  It wasn't THAT funny.

To distract her, I let her play with the garden tools in the shed while I got some yard work done.

If it's April, it must be time for bluebonnets.   South Texas wins again this year for bluebonnet beauty but D/FW is starting to show some color.  Personally,  I think our seeds blew down south last fall, or maybe it was the migrating gnomes that pooped them out on their way to Mexico.

I'm happy I have a few a diva that somehow managed to survive over the winter.  I found this little guy trying to nap (or hide from Cat) in my pretty blue Lupinis texensis (click to enlarge and get the full benefit of Reffie aiming the camera).

Then I walked out to my shade bed in the back where I'm trying some new ground cover and look what I found:

OK.  I'm impressed.  Not only is it alive, it bloomed.

Best of all, it's baseball season!  That's right.  Another season of Hubby cursing at the TV when our local team pitches batting practice for the other team during the game.

I think the Texas Rangers are currently in last place.

Sigh.

Have a bloomin' good weekend!

Everything around here is covered in pollen! I had the windows open and my kitchen floor is even a shade of green!

@Ziva - Sorry. The squirrel thing was really embarrassing.

I'm still amazed at how these beauties survive under all that winter we just had.

Are you sure it's wise to let evil twin play with sharp garden tools?

I love when things start blooming! It makes everything look so pretty. Our trees finally started sprouting some green. Unfortunately, today the windchill was in the 20's but that should (hopefully) be it for the below zero weather.
Make some mud patties for Evil twin & tell her their hamburgers...lol. (((HUGS)))

ReformingGeek said...

@Mrsblogalot - Yeah, they survive somehow. Evil Twin did ok. She didn't maim anything...this time.

@Collette - Yea spring! Sorry about the wind chills. Mud pies. Yum!

A squirrel tried to bury nuts in you? This has all the makings of a great sci-fi movie starring Sigourney Weaver and produced by James Cameron.

I hate the wind, by the way. Agitates me and I don't need agitating. Literally drives some people totally batshit. Willa Cather was always writing about Nebraksa and the ill effects of its near-constant winds.

Anyway, happy spring to you, Reffie. Your flowers look nice. I have a brown thumb (talk about things that sound bad), but I don't care. I leave it to people like you to keep me entertained with flowers and such.

Lovely photos Reffie! I can't wait till things start to bloom here. For now I'll be content with the trees getting some leaves :)

Would Evil Twin like an Evil NutJob dog for a pet?

Hyacinth, daffodils and tulips are blooming here in Maine, which is about 6 months too early. Amazing. My flowering cherry trees are starting to bud, usually they do not bloom until mid-May. I'm in love with Al Gore.

@MikeWJ - Hum....maybe not. The title might be "The Nutty Lady". Cuckoo. Cuckoo. It must be the wind.

@Skye - Trees sprouting leaves is good but apparently Deb's global warming didn't make it to Canada.

@Deb - When will you and Al be getting married?

we need Lady Bird Johnson to start planting bluebonnets along the highways again.

oh wait, is she dead?

Very nice pics... the bluebonnets have blossomed well.

But I am curious about the squirrel. Did it climb on top of you to bury those nuts?

ReformingGeek said...

@Jean - I think maybe she's a zombie.

@James - Thanks. I didn't want to admit it but the squirrel took one look at Evil Twin and keeled over.

You are quite the photographer. Great shots once again. You've got watch out for migrating gnomes. They hide in tall grass and like to trip unsuspecting gardeners and wildlife. Evil Twin would get along well with migrating gnomes, although the sharp gardening tools may be a problem. Would you mind if I posted a follow up article on migrating gnomes linking back to you. What a hilarious concept.

Dang, those are some intense squirrels!! I just love these pictures of your flowers! Isn't it just amazing when the flowers come back after a tough winter?

I have a lilac bush out front that just THREE months ago was buried beneath twelve inches of snow. Now, it's blooming and fragrant! Mother Nature ROCKS!!!

Very cool photos...

Squirrels freak me out just a little!

ReformingGeek said...

@Lauren - Thanks. I think Evil Twin would love to play with the gnomes. Write away!

@meleah - Thanks!

@Anything - Yes, spring is amazing, even if brings out the crazy squirrels. That lilac sounds nice.

@Brahm - Thanks!

Just wait, our local team the Pittsburgh Pirates, will give the Rangers a run for the money for the last place spot.

The bluebonnets are beautiful! Bring that green thumb over to the Unscripted house. I long for a season with Irises that don't get eaten by delinquent groundhogs!
