28 Days of Writing - Liars

When I was growing up, one of the worst things we could do was tell a lie.  That was very, very, BAD, and my brother and I were appropriately punished.  Well, the punishment worked.  I'm not much of a liar.

I'm not talking about white lies.  Sometimes, those are necessary in order to not hurt someone you care about or someone you need to respect, like a boss.  When your boss asks you if they look fat, what are you going to say?

Don't answer that.

The lies that people tell to cover up their mistakes are the ones that really get to me.  It bugs me that some people are not able to accept the consequences of their actions and lie in order to get out of trouble.

There are those that convince themselves that their perspective is truth.  I guess it is to them but it doesn't make it fact.

Enough of this serious stuff.  Let's find some funny.

One of the funniest lies I remember is from an episode of Red Dwarf where Lister is trying to teach Kryton to lie.

Hee Hee.  Stop hanging around on youtube and go check out the other liars.

I always tell the kids it is best to own up for a mistake and then just fix it as best you can. Otherwise it can make you sick worrying about it!

I love catching people in a lie especially when they tell a story they've told before but with a different consequence. "Hey. didn't you say the last time that…"

Funny video - I'd never heard of it. Katherine- that's the best advice.

Ha! Looks like you and I took the same approach today. Great minds, lady!

I would much rather have my feelings hurt by the truth than find out later I'd been lied to. Once someone has lied to you, you start second-guessing everything they say. And I HATE the second-guessing.

I've made plenty of mistakes but I've always owned up to them and tried to negate the negative consequences of my screw up. I believe in the white lie when it comes to not hurting feelings. After you bought the dress on sale (no returns allowed) I won't tell you it's not your color. After you get that haircut and it won't grow back for a couple of months, I won't tell you I hate it.

@Katherine - That is a good way to handle it.

@Noname - Yes, that is funny but it is sad when it is your parent.

@Linda - Oh my. You have missed an icon....if you like British comedy.

@Margaret - Indeed. I am honored.

@MsDarkstar - Yeah, but it sure is hard to do.

@Linda M - Yeah, it is good to admit a mistake and try to make amends. Those white lies are hard. You have to use your best judgement.

I miss Red Dwarf! Lister always makes me hungry for some Vindaloo.

White lies are the social lubricant that keep us all civil...at least on the surface.

Also, I'm loving the Red Dwarf clip. That takes me back. Thanks for that. :)

me too. it's not usually the "crime" that pisses me off - it's the "cover-up" that really makes me angry!
